Bowling Green Bay National Park – Alligator Creek

Bowling Green Bay National Park – Alligator Creek

Less than 30km’s south of Townsville is a little piece of natural beauty – Bowling Green Bay National Park and Alligator Creek.  With a camping area, picnic area, nature walks and a top swimming spot, the National Park is a great option for a day visit or weekend camp.  I took the kids out for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of winter and once I got over the shock of how low the water level was, I was quickly reminded of why I love this part of the country.

If you haven’t taken the drive out to Bowling Green Bay National Park I strongly suggest you do.  Get back to nature, have a chat with a Scrub Turkey, swim in cool fresh water and listen to the birds chirping in the background.  All this and only a short drive from Townsville!

Getting there

From Townsville, head South on Bruce Highway approx 25km and turn right where signed. The entrance to the main camping and picnic area is approx 5.5kms off the highway. The final section of road is gravel, but is suitable for regular cars.
