Overlooking the marina and castle hill for our sit-down chat with Lily from Pier Restaurant and Bar is picture perfect. You can clearly see why this beauty is ranked so highly for fine dining in Townsville.

Lily and her family took over The Pier nearly 4 years ago and since then have focused on providing good quality, delicious meals. Although they predominantly focus on showcasing seafood dishes, they also offer an extensive selection for those who aren’t seafood lovers or have dietary restrictions (including numerous vegan and gluten free options). 

The restaurant itself sits over the water with panoramic views of the Townsville CBD. Ample parking, indoor or outdoor dining and space between the tables quickly add points in the positive column. The menu is full of drool-inducing meals sourced with ingredients from local suppliers.

The head chef, Don, has a passion for creating amazing food and this passion is translated to the plate with perfectly presented meals that focus on simple, wholesome flavours.

Seated outside on the deck as the sun set over Townsville we were excited for the meals we were to experience. To begin, it was a tough choice between the confit duck breast and the seared scallops as our favourite entrée but the truffle pea puree that pairs with crispy prosciutto and silky scallops sealed the deal as number one on our list.

For the main event we dove into their ‘signature’ dish of chilli, garlic prawns and bugs with gusto. A touch more of their creamy sauce would have made this dish absolute perfection, however, overall the flavours were balanced well with the Morton Bay bugs the shining stars. Our dining companion decided on the eye fillet and stated that it was one of his favourite steaks he’s ever eaten. A big call from someone who orders steak wherever we eat. 

Lily, as the owner and manager of the restaurant is passionate about becoming a household name within the Townsville food scene. As a restaurant specialising in special occasions, they love celebrating life’s milestones with their diners. First dates, anniversaries, birthdays, weddings and more can be catered at The Pier and you won’t find a restaurant with a better view to do so. 

Beginning this Sunday, the team are waking up early with their first “official” breakfast service. With favourite breakfast items and some new exciting creations, we’re sure this additional meal service will be a great success. Lily is a self-confessed breakfast lover and is determined to offer a relaxed, easy vibe to perfect your weekend.

So, if it’s great food, impeccable service and amazing views that you’re chasing for your next meal out than The Pier- is perfect. With the Charles family at the helm, this pier is standing firm and strong in the Townsville food scene and we’re excited to see it continue to grow and expand in the years to come.
