Pallarenda Beach equals RELAXED!

Even though it’s only a short 10 minute drive from the city centre, the small beachside suburb of Pallarenda feels like it’s world away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

A place where there is enough open space that if you so choose, then the only other living creature you have to share your lunch with is this little curious fellow pictured here.

Pallarenda is located a short drive from Rowes Bay.  With only one road in and out, and backing onto restricted land that cannot be built up, Pallarenda has kept the charm and peacefullness it’s always been known for.  The drive there feels like you are leaving town due to the 80kph speed zone, bushland on one side of the road and ocean views on the other side.

There are a few beach access points along this stretch of road, including an area for dogs to run off-leash.  Just before the bridge into the suburb there’s a large park with an amenity block and plenty of parking.  This is also the access point to the beach most popular for Kite Surfing.

The views looking out from Pallarenda Beach are simply stunning and are definitely best enjoyed at sunrise or sunset.

The long stretch of beach allows for beautiful panoramic views, including the view back towards Castle Hill (pictured below left), across to Magnetic Island, and towards Cape Pallarenda (pictured bottom right).

Located in the central part of Pallarenda you will find the first of two council maintained parks with BBQ’s, large shaded grassed areas, amenities and children’s playgrounds.  A boat ramp can be found between these two parks with great beach access and plenty of parking available.

This central part of Pallarenda Beach is lifeguard patrolled during school holidays and a stinger net is set up during the peak warmer months.  Low tide provides a fun environment for kids to spot hermit crabs and find interesting shells, with high tide then making for a relaxing beach swim with low wave activity.  It’s perfect for families with kids of all ages!

Pallarenda is a lovely spot to visit for a picnic or a relaxing family BBQ.  With plenty of space to find your own piece of sand to stretch out on, Pallarenda is perhaps one of the most, if not THE most, relaxing part of Townsville that you will find.

Pallarenda is located approx 10kms north of the City Centre.  Travel along Cape Pallarenda Road from Rowes Bay.  Public transport is available with Sunbus and the closest accommodation is the Rowes Bay Beachfront Holiday Park
